Abstract:

Background: Drinking FLUORIDE-contaminated water is a severe health hazard problem. Fluorosis-both skeletal and dental-is an important clinical and public health problem in about 24 countries including India. The best method to overcome the problem of excess FLUORIDE in drinking water is DEFLUORIDATION. Adsorption methods are simple, economical, and globally pursued techniques. Thirst-quenching herbal products locally called ‘, Dahashamini’,are plant parts that are used during boiling drinking water. Possessing a DEFLUORIDATION potential is an added benefit. Methods: Two grams of each of dried and ground Zingiber officinale, Elettaria cardamomum, Eugenia caryophyllus, Coriandrum sativum, Acacia catechu, Caesalpinia sapans, Vetiveria zizanioides, Cuminum cyminum, and Hemidesmus indicus, were added to 100 millilitres of fluoridated water of baseline concentrations of 5 and 10 ppm, boiled till its boiling point, and cooled. The samples were then filtered and analyzed for FLUORIDE content using FLUORIDE ion specific electrode method. Statistical analysis was done using one-way ANOVA, followed by Tukey’, s post hoc test for pair-wise comparison. Results: Caesalpinia sapans, Vetiveria zizanioides, Acacia catechu, Eugenia caryophyllus, and Coriandrum sativum, had a significant ability to adsorb FLUORIDE from fluoridated water, with an efficiency ranging from 12% to 56% (at a baseline concentration of 10 ppm) and 19% to 82% (at a baseline concentration of 5 ppm). Conclusion: The study indicates the possibility of the use of five ingredients in developing a costeffective and acceptable method of DEFLUORIDATION based on the adsorption method.

Abstract:

Untreated caries are common findings in low-income communities. Treatment of dental caries in young children is challenging and requires a high skill and high cost of dental anesthesia for controlling patients and thus, chemical methods for arresting dental caries have been proposed. Silver diamine FLUORIDE (SDF) is a material that is used to control and to arrest dental caries, especially in primary teeth. It is noninvasive, safe, easy to use, and cost-effective. The SDF can be used as a therapeutic agent in oral health projects in low-income communities. In this article we reviewed the silver diamine FLUORIDE and its application in dentistry.

Abstract:

Synthesis of nanocellulose using crop residue rice husk is an innovative method. Morphological and structural characterizations of nanocellulose were analyzed. The rice husk based nanocellulose had a particle height of 5. 7 nm and a crystallinity index of 70%. Raw rice husk comprises 35% cellulose, 22% hemicellulose, 19. 1% lignin, and 20% ash. DEFLUORIDATION of water samples is an imperious provocation for the advancement of society. According to World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines, a FLUORIDE concentration of more than 1. 5 milligrams per litre leads to dental problems and bone deficiency. The appropriate DEFLUORIDATION practice was selected to avoid these problems. Cost-effective nanocellulose from rice husk was used as an adsorbent to purify a FLUORIDE-rich aqueous solution in batch experiments on a lab scale. Response of dose, temperature, time, pH, and initial ion concentration on adsorption capacity and removal efficiency were deliberated. In batch experiments, the highest removal efficiency of FLUORIDE from aqueous solution was 74% at a 120 min time, 2 mg/l initial ion concentration, 30 ˚C temp, 0. 9 g adsorbent dose at pH 2. According to WHO standards, FLUORIDE concentrations above 1. 5 mg/l cause tooth and bone insufficiency. Regeneration showed that the adsorbent was cost-effective and reusable. Two, three, and four-parameter isotherm models were applied to the experimental data. The Freundlich, Langmuir, Temkin, Redlich-Peterson, and Baudu isotherm models and the pseudo-second-order kinetic and intra-particle diffusion models best fit the data. The studied thermodynamic constraints showed the physical adsorption of FLUORIDE.

Abstract:

Water is essential part of life and quality of ground water control the adjudged that water is suitable for human consumption. The quality of ground water is mainly lower, virtue of reaction between alkaline elements with natural resources. FLUORIDE is one of the major alkaline elements that to lowered the water quality. So DEFLUORIDATION of drinking water is the only possible option to overcome the problem of excessive FLUORIDE in drinking water. Therefore, in this paper, we focused on synthesize a low cost eco- friendly technique for removal of FLUORIDE in the ground water. The present study describes the synthesis of calcium and phosphate based material for removal of FLUORIDE from groundwater. Characterization of the synthesize material performs with ICP (OES), XRD, FTIR shows that crystalline material of Hydroxyapetite. Kinetics study of FLUORIDE removal from drinking water analysis is performed through jar test apparatus as a function of coagulant dose, pH of the solution, contact time, initial FLUORIDE concentration and temperature. The highest percentage of removal of FLUORIDE was 96 % observed when at initial dosing concentration 4mg/L, contact time 1hr and pH equal to 7.
